Multi Point Resistance Spot Welding Machine 7 Point Aluminum Fuel Tank Welder
Product Overview
This semi-automatic projection welding machine is purpose-built for fusing metal rings to the inner mouth of half-section fuel tank shells. The upper electrode features an integral annular ring with 7 fixed protrusions that pre-fit the metal ring, while the lower circular platform positions the tank shell precisely. When the electrodes align, all 7 protrusions press and energize simultaneously, producing 7 consistent weld points in a single cycle.
Engineered for production efficiency, the unit operates on a manual-load, automatic-weld, manual-unload cycle that keeps cycle times short and operator involvement minimal. Forced water cooling inside the annular ring prevents annealing adhesion and supports continuous shift operation. The modular quick-change electrode design allows fast adaptation to different tank diameters, making this a flexible, long-term asset for fuel tank fabricators.
Key Technical Advantages
One-Shot 7 Point Welding
The upper electrode ring carries 7 fixed protrusions machined integrally with the ring body, eliminating loose electrode head issues. All 7 weld points are completed simultaneously, delivering uniform positional accuracy and reducing per-piece cycle time.
Low Impedance Balanced Current
Soft copper strips connect both electrode coils to the transformer secondary, creating a short, balanced current path. This ensures consistent current density across all 7 points with no bias current, resulting in even nugget formation.
Precise Four-Stage Timing Control
A four-stage regulator (pressurization, welding, hold, rest) allows independent adjustment of each phase. Welding time is precisely controlled between 0.3 and 0.5 seconds, while the hold stage ensures full nugget crystallization for stronger joints.
Stable Thyristor Phase-Shift Controller
Thyristor phase-shifting technology provides stepless secondary current adjustment. Slow-start and voltage-stabilization functions suppress grid fluctuations, maintaining constant output accuracy even on unstable shop floors.
Forced Water Cooling System
Internal water channels inside the annular electrode continuously cool the ring and protrusions, preventing annealing adhesion and sustaining reliable long-run operation. All waterway components are surface-treated against rust, with individual drains for easy blockage detection.
Applications
| Industry | Typical Workpiece | Welding Mode |
|---|---|---|
| Automotive Fuel Tank Manufacturing | Half-section fuel tank shell + metal ring | 7-point simultaneous projection welding |
| Heavy Machinery Components | Circular flanges with locating rims | Multi-point projection welding |
| New Energy Vehicle Parts | Aluminum tank filler ports | Synchronous resistance spot welding |
| General Metal Fabrication | Sheet metal assemblies with ring inserts | Fixed projection welding |
Working Principle
The operator places a half-section fuel tank shell on the lower circular platform and pre-fits the metal ring onto the upper electrode's 7 protrusions. Upon cycle start, the pneumatic cylinder drives the upper electrode down until the protrusions contact the ring and tank mouth inner wall. The transformer delivers low-impedance secondary current through soft copper strips to both electrode coils, energizing all 7 points simultaneously. Heat generated at the contact interfaces melts and fuses the ring to the shell, while the hold stage allows the nugget to crystallize before the electrodes retract. Forced water circulation continuously removes heat from the ring, maintaining stable weld quality over extended production runs.

Frequently Asked Questions
What materials can this machine weld?
The welder is designed primarily for aluminum fuel tank shells but can also handle alloy metals and stainless steel with appropriate parameter adjustment. It is optimized for the metal ring to tank mouth application described above.
How quickly can a welding cycle be completed?
A complete cycle, including manual loading and unloading, is typically under 8 seconds. Welding time itself is adjustable between 0.3 and 0.5 seconds, while the hold stage ensures nugget crystallization before part removal.
Can the electrode be changed for different tank diameters?
Yes. The modular quick-change electrode ring design allows operators to swap in different diameter specifications in minutes. This adaptability makes the machine suitable for a range of fuel tank sizes without major retooling.
How does the cooling system prevent weld defects?
Forced water flows through internal channels inside the annular electrode, continuously cooling the ring and protrusions. This prevents annealing adhesion and maintains stable conductivity, ensuring consistent weld quality even during extended production runs.
What power supply options are available?
The machine supports 220 V, 380 V, and 440 V primary voltages with single-phase input. A dedicated gas storage tank reduces welding pressure fluctuations for stable electrode force during production.
